A gentle practice that teaches us to relax and accept ourselves exactly as we are; the practice calms the mind and mends the body. Poses can be supported with props and participants ease into the full expression of the pose as allowed by their bodies. Great for deep physical and emotional healing and relaxation.
ADAPTIVE or CHAIR YOGA: Can be appropriate for almost anyone!!

Adaptive yoga will introduce one to a series of the most effective yoga poses, all done from the comfort and safety of a chair or with the use of a mat, balance bars or chair support. It can also be effective for travelers, the desk-bound, truckers or golfers.
ALIGNMENT YOGA (also called YOGA BASICS or FUNDAMENTALS OF YOGA)
THIS CLASS IS FOR ALL LEVELS OF YOGA STUDENTS: improve your poses and learn proper alignment & modifications for your body. Each month there will be a different focus.
1. Introduction to Yoga Alignment
2. Standing, Warrior & Triangle Poses
3. Forward Folding Poses
4. Back Bending & Floor Poses
5. Balancing Poses
6. Seated & Twisting Poses
Interweaves the power of the ancient discipline of yoga with current evidence-based scientific findings; has been shown to be particularly beneficial for mood management, anxiety and depression; interwoven in dynamic classes. Available for private classes.
Prenatal yoga is one of the best things that you can do for yourself, as well as your growing baby. Although there are no group prenatal classes, modifications and instructions are given for the pregnant student. Also private classes are available.
SOME OF THE BENEFITS OF PRENATAL YOGA ARE:
1. Develops stamina and strength: As your baby grows within your body, more energy and strength is needed to be able to carry the weight. Yoga poses strengthen your hips, back, arms and shoulders.
2. Balance: Your balance is challenged physically as the fetus grows within your body. Emotionally most pregnant women are drained due to the increases in progesterone and estrogen. As you try to focus on holding and breathing through each yoga pose, you will increase your ability to fine tune your balance, physically and emotionally.
3. Relieves tension of lower back, hips, chest, upper back, neck and shoulders: As your baby grows, more stress is put upon these specific muscle groups in our bodies. One tends to have more of a lordotic/lower back curve due to the increased size of our bellies. The hips get tighter due to the added pressure of the baby’s weight in your belly. As your breasts increase in size, your upper back and chest have more tension, along with more tension and pressure in your neck and shoulders.
4. Calms the nervous system: Through mindful yogic movement and breathing, you will begin to experience the relaxing benefits of this practice. This practice activates the relaxation response in the body. As you learn to calm the mind and calm the body, the nervous system goes into parasympathetic mode, which is responsible for relaxation. This in turn, calms the digestive system and all the other systems in the body.
MINDFULNESS RESTORATIVE YOGA - 2.5 hour session, usually offered on the second Saturday of the month, 10:00am-12:30pm -- from October to April.
Restorative yoga might best described as a supported, conscious body/mind relaxation practice. When supported with props, the body relaxes and opens, releasing tension and stored-up toxins that can cause illness. Restorative poses offer benefits to both the body and mind, for conditions ranging from insomnia to asthma to chronic pain to migraines to depression.
Sylvia and the other teachers incorporate meditation, pranayama (breathing), stress-reduction and therapeutic principles in all of their classes. Private classes will be developed according to your specific needs. Sylvia has had much success in helping students overcome stress related issues and physical conditions that are either acute or chronic.

*“Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way; on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally.” (Jon Kabat-Zinn) Yoga promotes a state of mindfulness, a state in which we are willing to let go of the filters that our mind puts between us and our experiences. Mindfulness yoga promotes an awareness that begins to allow us to accept the experiences of our present lives without judging each experience as good or bad. STRAP PILATES: for anyone who can safely get up and down from the floor.
By emphasizing proper breathing, correct spinal and pelvic alignment, and concentration on smooth, flowing movement, you become acutely in tune with your body. You actually learn how to control its movement. In Pilates the quality of movement is valued over quantity of repetitions. Proper breathing is essential, and helps you execute movements with maximum power and efficiency. Last but not least, learning to breathe properly can reduce stress.
Pilates helps one to develop a strong core - flat abdominals and a strong back; gain long, lean muscles and flexibility; and create an evenly conditioned body, improve sports performance, and prevent injuries. Many people who have begun doing Pilates exercises say they've seen improvements in range of motion, flexibility, circulation, posture, abdominal strength and a decreases in pain.
MAT PILATES AND BARRE FITNESS ARE NOT BEING OFFERED AT THE PRESENT TIME. THE SCHEDULED TEACHER IS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE. WE ARE LOOKING TO ENGAGE ANOTHER TEACHER.
